What is disc golf?

Disc golf is a sport played with frisbees/discs to complete a course with as few throws as possible, like traditional golf. Players use different types of discs for different types of throws and distances. Disc golf courses can be beginner-friendly or very challenging, and the sport can be played individually or in groups. It is a popular leisure and competitive sport enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. Disc golf is perhaps more popularly known as frisbee golf, but since the word “frisbee” is trademarked, disc golf is the correct term.

Why make a disc golf course?

  1. Recreation
Disc golf is a fun and engaging outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. Creating a disc golf course gives people a recreational opportunity to get outside, exercise and socialize with others who share their interest in the sport.
  2. Building community
Disc golf courses can help bring people together and bring a sense of community. Players often form friendships and social networks around the sport, and tournaments and other events can bring people in from other areas, build connections and relationships. Clubs are also often formed that hold small tournaments, trainings and events that can contribute to the community and social life.
  3. Economic benefits
Disc golf courses can also bring economic benefits to the surrounding area. Tournaments and other events can attract players from other cities who want to spend money on lodging, food and other services. In addition, disc golf courses can attract tourists seeking new and unique outdoor experiences. See also Mats Adamczak TEDx Talks, where he explains how disc golf saved the Åland Islands economy. You can find it here.
  4. Environmental benefits
Disc golf courses can be designed to coexist with natural nature areas, providing opportunities to preserve and promote the natural environment.

Overall, creating a disc golf course can be a positive addition to a community that provides recreational, economic, and environmental benefits for players and non-players alike.

How to get started with a new disc golf course?

All courses are different and we experience that many begin with different starting points – some just with an idea and a green area – some with an almost finished plan. Therefore, we advise you to contact us wherever you are in the process – and we would love to help you throughout the process. Here we outline what a course design project would often look like and what steps you need to be aware of:

  1. Research the area you want to use
    a. If it is land owned by the municipality, applications must of course be made for the installation of a disc golf course.
    b. Of course, we are happy to help in this process, and have many years of experience with how this should be approached.
    c. If it is privately owned area, the owner must of course give permission.
  2. Contact Discimport and arrange a time for screening of your course area
    a. During this screening we’ll together with you, review the intended area and make our assessment of which course size would be realistic and most suitable for the target groups that will use the course. At Discimport, we work a lot with safety when designing our courses, and we adapt our design and recommendations so that the area is safe for everyone who frequents it.
    b. In the screening, we will focus on the target group that you want the course to attract.
    i. It is important to be aware that the course will not be too difficult or too easy, so you don’t miss your target group.
ii. At the same time, the course should be fun and versatile to play without becoming boring.
    c. In the screening, we will also focus on the need for signage, teepads and other course tools that can optimize the upcoming course.
  3. Applications for funds.
    a. We collect an offer that contains the products you want that can be used in this application process. We can make offers for a finished package including establishment and assembly or we can make a tailor-made “do-it-yourself” offer.
  4. Ordering goods and establishment.
    a. Once all the “boring” documents are sorted out, we can get started building a disc golf course!
    b. It is both possible to be responsible for the establishment yourself, and we also offer a solution where we come out and establish the entire course.
    c. Of course, we help with guidance in the process of getting everything build correctly – both baskets, signs and teepads.
  5. Course maps and tee signs.
    a. We always recommend a good information system. It is important that your target groups can find their way around the disc golf course.
    b. If you want overview maps and/or tee signs, we will begin drawing them at this step. It is important that the course has been tested throughout, so that we ensure that no sudden changes have to be made.
  6. Creating the course on UDisc.
    a. UDisc is the most used disc golf app, which contains almost all disc golf courses around the world. We recommend that you register your disc golf course at UDisc if you want visitors at the course.
    b. Of course, we can also help with the creation of this.

Denmark’s leading designers of disc golf courses

At Discimport we have more than 20 years of experience in designing disc golf courses. We design courses with great respect for other users of the areas and safety is our first priority. We want to design courses that match the needs of the area. We therefore design both professional courses that are used for large tournaments and for larger clubs, but also smaller courses, which can be used by schools, institutions and newer players, for example. Disc golf should be fun for everyone, and this is not an easy discipline when it comes to course designing. Therefore, we always recommend that a course design is made with a professional disc golf course designer.

What is DiscGolfPark

DiscGolfPark is a unique course building concept that can be found all over the world. Discimport is the only company that can build certified DiscGolfPark courses in Denmark. The course designers under DiscGolfPark are handpicked and selected to build courses under a concept that follows a high standard in course design. Mikael Birkelund Jensen-Johansen is the certified designer here in Denmark and is also the owner of Discimport. Therefore, a collaboration with Discimport will also be a collaboration with DiscGolfPark without this having extra costs. DiscGolfPark is a strong trademark to get on its course, so that all players know that the course lives up to the high standards that they are used to. At the same time, the course will become part of DiscGolfPark’s almost 500 courses, which are spread over three continents. You can read here what DiscGolfPark writes or watch their video:

DiscGolfPark in Denmark

In Denmark, there are about 120 courses registered on Udisc. In addition to this, there are also other courses that are not registered. DiscGolfPark and Discimport have made more than 40 courses in Denmark and supplied equipment for many more. DiscGolfPark is the highest quality course designs and the best equipment on the market.
Mikael Birkelund Jensen-Johansen has been a course designer for DiscGoldPark since 2014 and has previously gained a lot of experience with different kinds of courses all around the world. Mikael is 3 x Danish champion in disc golf and also winner of the Berlin Open 2006. These experiences are something Mikael draws into his work with course design in Denmark. Mikael has assembled a small team under Discimport, all of whom are involved in designing courses around Denmark, and who have been allowed to come under his wing.
It is important for Mikael to build courses that fit the level of challenges that will suit the target group that wants to use the course, and at the same time have an eye for the safety of other disc golfers, as well as the safety of other users of the area. Therefore, Mikael has both designed one of Denmark’s most difficult courses in Silkeborg, Søhøjlandet Disc Golf Course, but also designed many smaller courses, which are used by school students, families and children. Mikael explains here what his experience is of designing courses for DiscGolfPark:

“It is fantastic to design disc golf courses in Denmark because we have such good traditions for association work.” This means that there are many local enthusiasts who are ready to help disc golf enthusiasts get started finding fundraising, organizing and collaborating with the local authorities and owners of suitable green areas. It’s amazing to see disc golf course projects come to life from idea to reality through thousands of volunteer hours in local sports clubs.”

Our equipment

DiscGolfPark Baskets

The DiscGolfPark basket was first introduced in 2005. Since then, the basket has received many improvements up to the present day, and the basket is already used on over 5000 disc golf holes around the world. The DiscGolfPark basket is without a doubt one of the most popular baskets in the world, and for good reason. The basket is good at catching putts with its 28 chains divided into 2 rows.

The basket comes in DiscGoldPark’s yellow color by default. If color changes are desired on the baskets, this is also an option where there are several different RAL colors to choose from. Several municipal areas may have an attitude to the color, which also makes the DiscGolfPark basket a good choice, as we have the opportunity to accommodate these wishes.

MultiGolfPark Baskets / Cups

Our MultiGolfPark baskets make it possible to play disc golf, football golf and park golf. It is dug out so that the metal cup can be put into the ground, and the basket is mounted in the same cup. There is no need to cast anything. MultiGolfPark is a good choice for smaller areas or if you want to attract different athletes. At the same time, it is also the perfect choice for schools, institutions, campsites or other areas with many different visitors.

DiscGolfPark Signage

Signage can be an important part of a disc golf course design. Both info signs and tee signs help to provide users with information, as well as to show the way around the course. At Discimport, we provide high quality signage with graphic design that is adapted to you. We supply foil with a 5-year warranty, so you are sure that your graphics are always sharp and not bleached by the sun. We can design to suit you, and of course there is also room for sponsors or other information to get a place on the signage.

Info sign

An overview map of the entire course as well as the information needed about the course – this could for example be opening hours, rules and conditions or borrowing discs.

Tee Sign

Shows the route from teepad to basket and what challenges there may be along the way. At the same time, it can be displayed if there are special rules for the individual hole. QR codes can also be added that direct the player to more information about the hole/course. QR codes are often used at school for pedagogical/didactic purposes or for nature communication, etc.

Ground screws

We offer the possibility that you do not have to cast the basket in the ground. You can use our ground screws, which are screwed into the ground and the basket is mounted in the screw. In this way, the basket is also easy to move if necessary, and it does not require concrete but only hand power. We have made many course designs that have found great pleasure from these screws, as this also makes it possible to modify the track over time. At the same time, it is a good way to establish a course if you want to involve school students, club members or other volunteers. It is easy and fast and the result is a stable basket that will not move without this having to be the point.

TeePads

At Discimport, we can offer everything you need to give the users of your course a professional experience. Teepads are one of those things that can really raise the quality and appeal of your course. Teepads can be established in many ways and have many different shapes and shades. . We can tailor exactly what you need to get the perfect result. We have many years of experience in establishing and selecting the best material for the right project, and we advise and guide you throughout the process. It is also possible to have us come and establish teepads and make sure that it all works.

MultiGolfPark

As the only one in Denmark, we also offer MultiGolfPark. This is a 3-in-1 solution, which gives a course more playing options than just one. Theese three activities can be played on these baskets/holes:

  1. Football golf
  2. Disc golf
  3. Park Golf

This is a great way to make the most of an area’s potential. We have had great success in building these courses in smaller areas where there is no space for long disc golf holes. By choosing MultiGolfPark, you open up the area to a variety of users. We have previously designed the MultiGolfPark, which benefited the school’s students, but was also used by the city’s football team as a warm-up. In addition, tourists and other users could choose which activity they were interested in.

You can read here what the manufacturer says or watch the video:

“MultiGolfPark is an innovative concept that puts these three forms of golf together in a way never seen before. With MultiGolfPark, you’ll triple the potential of your recreational area. This makes MultiGolfPark an affordable activity arena for modern urban areas.

You can fit a multi golf course in roughly the space of a football field. MultiGolf fairways are much shorter than the fairways of traditional golf. This makes it suitable for people of all ages and physical abilities. Plus, various obstacles make gameplay more exciting!”

We at Discimport are again the only certified MultiGolfPark designer and the only ones in Denmark to offer this solution. MultiGolfPark is a good way to design a course if you want to accommodate a larger group of users, while at the same time gathering several activities in the same teeing ground and basket / hole.
